I took my youngest sister on the Empire Builder Amtrak train (it runs from Chicago to Seattle) about a month and a half ago. These are the pictures. It goes through Glacier National Park...it was a great ride.

To Nome...
Mooney and I decided to bike the 80 miles to Nome. Unfortunately my camera broke before the bear incident, sleet storm, gold dredge, incredible views, and sleeping next to a road grader. Here's what I got though.

Working Weekend
I went to Unalakleet, Ak for a working weekend at the end of April. Most of the snow was gone, just the piles left to melt. Yesterday, May 7, 2010, I could see/hear Sand Hill Cranes flying over from my classroom window. Bird hunting is not far away.
Walking
Here are some pictures of Mooney and I walking around. Some were taken hiking up the hills South of Brevig others while walking on the road to the dump. The temperature has been consistently in the 30degF range the last couple of weeks and pleasantly not windy.

Summer Update
As my summer plans start to develop I thought I would do a little gloating (as not much else is going on). I am going to be back in the Lower 48 for the first month or two of summer. Between weddings and graduations I am going to look into fixing up an old car/truck. It has been suggested to me that everybody should drive the AL-CAN (Alaskan-Canadian Highway) for its scenic views. I am also taking the Empire Builder train from Chicago to Seattle.
The last month or two I am going to ride my bicycle around Nome, Ak. Nome was once a gold mining town and has an extensive network of roads that lead nowhere. I am going to camp where the roads end and bring the dog. The top two pictures are of my bike and trailer.

Basketball Tournament and State Toopers
Brevig hosted the Regional Basketball Tournament. The top two pictures are of our 'parking lot'. The last two are of the gym. *On a side note, the TV show on National Geographic channel, "Alaska State Troopers" was in Brevig...again. Watch for my 5 minutes of fame...I'll be in a red Husker shirt! Ask me for the story.

To Teller, again
I took the snow machine and sled to Teller to pick someone up last weekend. I took Mooney along and she ran about 75% of the 7.5 miles. I was hoping it would tire her out but it seemed to have the opposite reaction. The top picture is of the 'Forest Highway'. The next few are of Teller. Teller is connected to Nome via a seasonal road...so they have a little more access to supplies.
